Rockets Music:
Tell us about your latest release. How did the recording go, what chips were used, what is this release different from the previous one (if it was)?
Vasi:
It all began in early November 2017, then we started recording our mini album Dreamland, and the recording process lasted until the end of January. After that we conducted the preparation for the release: we made some videos about the making of EP, made out the communities with social networks, even made a website. Well, at the end of March, finally, the process was completed!
RM:
Is there a planned tour to support the release?
Vasi:
Yes, of course, we are planning a mini tour of the nearest cities to Moscow! At the moment, there are 4 dates known: April 22 - Electrostal, May 13 - Tver, June 3 - Kaluga, and June 9 - Moscow!
RM:
Tell us, what was the path, how did it all start, and how did the band form?
Vasi:
We founded Caesarius on April 1, 2017. At that moment I dialed a team, I had tabs from just one song. By pure chance, I was lucky to find a full lineup with a wonderful drummer and two great guitarists. We have been looking for a bassist for a long time. Now with us is not the bassist you can hear on the record. But, believe me, you will be pleasantly surprised when you'll listen to him at the upcoming concerts! He has a completely different technique of playing, I really like his sound. So I hope that at this pace we will continue our journey! 1 demo and 1 mini-album for the year of the band's existence is, I think, a small success.
RM:
Why did you choose this genre (power metal)?
Vasi:
In fact, it's just my musical taste that falls on power and heavy metal of 80's and 90's. And besides, in principle now the style of these years is quite popular in culture, in fashion, in music... So, I think we "caught this wave".
RM:
Ahead of the festival summer, are there any plans for some open airs?
Vasi:
Of course, we would be happy to go to the open airs, if it is profitable under the conditions! You understand that to go to the far end of the world (in other words, at a distance of more than 200 km), you need to think everything over, for example, whether our trip and accommodation will pay off, how many people will see and hear us, what other metal bands are going to perform ... There are a lot of factors. We are not too experienced to demand fees from the organizers, so we would just like to see that after the concert all parties were satisfied: we, and the organizers, and most importantly, the audience. In any case, we consider all incoming proposals and we consider them carefully!
RM:
What problems do you face when promoting your work?
Vasi:
For all the time the band existed, in fact, we had no special problems. Unless, if it comes to the large sums of money that we had to spend, or that we are not yet experienced in order to carry out our "Napoleonic plans". But in general, nothing was wrong.
RM:
Do you have conflict situations in Caesarius? Is there a leader who can solve them and lead everyone along?
Vasi:
I am the leader and the founder of Caesarius, but in our band everything is quite democratic. Everyone's opinion is taken into account when making decisions. In some issues, someone is competent more, someone is less because of the difference in experience. This is all stipulated. Conflict situations are very rare and fleeting. We have such an unspoken rule, which was introduced by our drummer - do not take offense at the band members. And that's how we live. The guys are very contact and non-conflicting.
RM:
What bands are you equal to? Who is your idol?
Vasi:
I would say that my main reference is Helloween. Do not repeat mistakes of others - the main motto in this case. Let's hope that all our goals will be implemented sooner or later!
RM:
What is the most important thing for you in music?
Vasi:
The most important thing is the soul of music, if I can say so. How do you perform, what you do, how you treat your listeners, how you feel about your musicians. In this we must live, in this we must exist. To feel as a part of the world of music, like we can handle everything. Therefore, first of all, at this stage we are not thinking about commerce but about what and how we play.
RM:
Good. That's difficult enough now to get on the big stage, but where do you see yourself through... for example, three years?
Vasi:
Haha, well, of course, I would like to dream and say that in three years I would like to see myself at Wacken Open Air. But we will be a little more realistic. I would like to try myself at major metal festivals in Russia, go ahead with concerts in Europe. Yes, especially in Germany! I would like to give concerts there.
RM:
And what should fans expect from the band in 2018?
Vasi:
We are planning a small tour, as I said, as well as photosets, meetings, new songs. Yes, at every concert, except for some, we playing the new songs. You can even see how our compositions are becoming more complex and changing with the course of time. If in the future we'll have a lot of songs, and the number of fans will grow, we may start recording a full-length album or shooting a music video. Of course, I do not promise that at this stage our clip will be of Hollywood level and shot on the IMAX camera, we still have a limited budget and opportunities. And I also had an idea to record a single. This is all the plans, what will come of it, and what does not - no one yet knows. Time will tell! We do not even know what will happen tomorrow. Everything happens pretty quickly, I admit.
RM:
What will you do if your career in show business fails?
Vasi:
Honestly, I don't want to think about it. I expect that everything will be fine, and so far everything is talking about it.
RM:
Tell us about your hobbies, interests.
Vasi:
My life is music, creativity. I love to mount video, do posters, communities in social networks, do my website. Well, writing music for me is something magical. Sometimes it happens that you write something, and then you realize that this is a kind of masterpiece. For example, our listeners especially singled out Kingdom Of Fun and Dreamland, because they have a pleasant and memorable motive. Therefore, most of my time, I devote to thinking about new songs, so how not to create a pass-through material, and I immediately discard unsuccessful options. I know bands that write 10 songs per month, but these songs rarely are good. That's why I pay as much attention as possible to the songs than anything else.
RM:
What is your favorite movie?
Vasi:
The Dark Knight
RM:
Do you have time for reading in your busy schedule? What book would you recommend to our readers?
Vasi:
I have always loved Alice in Wonderland, and also stories about Sherlock Holmes. I also really like the poems of D. Harms.
RM:
What was the last concert you attended? What do you remember about this?
Vasi:
You will laugh, but the last concert I was is Helloween. I remember meeting with old friends and new acquaintances, great show, as well as sincere after-party in the best company.
RM:
Do you follow the musical novelties? What did you listen to recently? What do you like? Were there disappointments?
Vasi:
I usually don't listen to what I can be disappointed with. And if this happens, then I just do not keep it in my head. From the last - these are releases of Masterplan, Avantasia, BloodBound, Lacrimosa, Skycrater and others. I try to follow these bands, I don't listen to every band in the world. I'm also not one of those people who get acquainted with set-lists of concerts, that's why I often hear half of the songs on live for the first time. So, for example, I was very pleasantly surprised by the compositions of Masterplan and Crimson Cry, when I was on their show. And also for the week in a row the song Helloween - Perfect Gentleman does not leave me.
RM:
Do you think there is a future for printed rock magazins or will everything go online?
Vasi:
I am completely sure that printed rock-editions are times more valuable than those published on the Internet. They are usually much more interestingly decorated, and they can also be put on the shelf and reread from time to time. For me, this is tantamount to posters or CDs.
RM:
Do you buy print magazines?
Vasi:
Used to buy very often. Then there simply was less time to watch the releases, so I had to give up involuntarily. But if I had seen a magazine with my favorite band on the shelf, I would have taken it without hesitation!
RM:
And finally: what is your motto?
Vasi:
Be guided by your honor and conscience in decision-making, do as you would like others to do to you, set goals and achieve them, do what you like and do not waste your life on a bullshit.
